PARTNER
WARREN J. HIGGINS specializes in representing employers in a multitude of different labor and employment matters. He has extensive experience handling all aspects of employment litigation, including discovery, trial, and appellate work. Mr. Higgins has successfully defended claims of unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of contract, defamation, and Labor Code violations. He has handled and resolved wage and hour claims, discrimination complaints filed with the DFEH or EEOC, and Labor Code Section 132a and "serious and willful" petitions before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. He has also represented employers in labor disputes. One of Mr. Higgins' strengths is his ability to evaluate potential liability while understanding the business needs of his clients. He utilizes that ability to advise clients regarding practical strategies to avoid or resolve employment-related disputes. Mr. Higgins also contributes articles to publications and speaks at seminars regarding key developments in the field of employment law.
Mr. Higgins graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1991, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics/International Area Studies, and was inducted as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Thereafter, in 1994, Mr. Higgins received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Higgins also served as an extern for the Honorable Judge David V. Kenyon at the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
Mr. Higgins was admitted to the California bar in 1994. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court (various districts) and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Since 1994, Mr. Higgins has represented employers in state and federal trial and appellate courts, arbitration proceedings, and before various administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the U.S. Department of Labor, the California Department of Labor Standards Enforcement, the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, and the National Labor Relations Board.
